Welcome to Living The Food Life in Beppu!

This blog is run by me (Neko/Nguyên Hà) and sometimes, my buddy Vincent (Khang Trương). We have been friends since high school in Vietnam, and now in Beppu, Japan we’re roommates in college. We are united by our passion in discovering great food and great people in the hidden corners of life.

This blog focuses on our Beppu chapter as international students at the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University. We originally started as a Facebook page, but after a year of trial and error, I’ve decided to expand to an actual blog so as to improve the content and photos.

Everything on this blog are produced by us unless stated otherwise. Also, we are a non-profit blog, and we receive no money for “advertising” restaurants. We merely introduce them because we like it, and because we’d like to get APU’s international students and tourists to get more in touch with this lovely city. So get your wallet ready and get out of the house – while Beppu might be a small city, we promise that there is so much to find out!

Check out #beppueats on instagram for more shots of our daily explorations.

  1. Hey I wondered if you have any lists or recomendations of restaurants wich offers vegetarian japanese food ? It’s really hard to find.. Thanks, Kathi. 🙂

    1. Hi! Thanks for the comment.

Are you looking for vegetarian food in Beppu only, or Japan in general? This page has a comprehensive list of restaurants and grocery stores in Beppu: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beppu-Oita-Veggie-Info/1603102503240765?fref=ts

If you’re willing to go outside of Beppu, then in Usuki, this restaurant is super famous (I heard that even the monks from Kyoto come here to dine): http://www.kenshouzi.jp/seigetsu/

  2. Hi, I love your blog! I’ll be trying several of your recommendations. I’m here in Beppu for the week and was wondering if you have any bar recommendations in Beppu for Friday or Saturday nights. Thanks!

    1. Hey! I hope you have a good time exploring Beppu. For bars, I used to frequent Bar Square in Kitahama a lot – the bartender is super nice and makes the best cocktails. BAR LEFT ALONE is a also local favorite.
